Summary

To the outside world, Electra D’Aplièse seems to be the woman with everything: as one of the world’s top models, she is beautiful, rich and famous。

Yet beneath the veneer, Electra’s already tenuous control over her state of mind has been rocked by the death of her father, Pa Salt, the elusive billionaire who adopted his six daughters from across the globe。 Struggling to cope, she turns to alcohol and drugs。 As those around her fear for her health, Electra receives a letter from a complete stranger who claims to be her grandmother 。 。 。

In 1939, Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya from New York to nurse a broken heart。 Staying with her godmother, a member of the infamous Happy Valley set, on the shores of beautiful Lake Naivasha, she meets Bill Forsythe, a notorious bachelor and cattle farmer with close connections to the proud Maasai tribe。 But after a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily has few options。 Moving up into the Wanjohi Valley, she is isolated and alone。 Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life for ever。

Sweeping from Manhattan to the magnificent wide-open plains of Africa, The Sun Sister is the sixth instalment in Lucinda Riley’s multi-million selling epic series, The Seven Sisters。

I have really enjoyed all the previous seven sisters books but was not looking forward to this one as having snippets of Electra’s character throughout the other books I just didn’t like her。 After reading the book in a few days all I can say is Wow, the story of Electra is so well written with twist and turns that you don’t see coming but with moments that certainly made the tears flow。 Fabulously written and can’t wait to read the missing sister

Favourite so far of the serious !

The one I was looking forward to the least, hesitant to be even more put off by Electra’s rough exterior personality。 I enjoyed being proven wrong and growing to like Electra。 This one has a less prominent love story in the present time, which I didn’t mind at all。 Onto the seventh sister!

Not as good as previous Sisters books

This sure explains a lot about the youngest sister in the series。 Some things didn't make sense, but I take it all with a grain of salt。 This sure explains a lot about the youngest sister in the series。 Some things didn't make sense, but I take it all with a grain of salt。 。。。more

I put off reading this book for ages because I didn’t think I was going to enjoy it after reading other reviews but I ended up loving it。 I will also always remember reading this as Lucinda Riley died as I was reaching the end of the story。 She was such a wonderful writer and I have so enjoyed her books。

Absolutely love this series, and this one was no exception。 The history part about Kenya was very well researched, as well as the themes of battling an addiction。

I did not look forward to read about Electra, but this might be one of my favorite sisters。Electra is a super model who is addicted to alcohol and drugs。 She has a hard time accepting that Pa Salt is gone。She feels so lost that the only thing she can do is grab a bottle and a line of coke。When a mystirous letter arrives she dicides she wants to know more about her biological family。 And that will change her life。 This story is about feeling lost, trying to get life back together and most importa I did not look forward to read about Electra, but this might be one of my favorite sisters。Electra is a super model who is addicted to alcohol and drugs。 She has a hard time accepting that Pa Salt is gone。She feels so lost that the only thing she can do is grab a bottle and a line of coke。When a mystirous letter arrives she dicides she wants to know more about her biological family。 And that will change her life。 This story is about feeling lost, trying to get life back together and most important family and friends。 This book let us see that it is ok to ask your friends and family for help when needed。 That how miserable whe as human can feel, that there is always a way out, and that there are always people who can and want help。Thank you Lucinda Riley for this book! 。。。more

Great story telling, the plot on Electra’s story are thought provoking 。The story evoke emotion because of how descriptive is written。。I loved how historical details are well researched and how well the story is told in two time lines。。。。。。 The events in Cecily’s and Electra are so relatable hence one may really feels it is a biography 。。。。 I loved it 。。。 I started with it only knew that it was a series after I have started 。。。。 My next one is The Seven sisters。。。。this will be my winter read

This 6th volume of the Seven Sisters series tells the story of Electra, a supermodel living in New York but also her roots in Kenya through the character of Cecily。 Electra has what we call a "strong personality" and she is not very likeable at first。 We follow her journey down to the point where she needs to get help and recover。 There are some similarities in Cecily's story: it also shows a woman who stands for herself and has some tough experiences to live through。 The first turning point in This 6th volume of the Seven Sisters series tells the story of Electra, a supermodel living in New York but also her roots in Kenya through the character of Cecily。 Electra has what we call a "strong personality" and she is not very likeable at first。 We follow her journey down to the point where she needs to get help and recover。 There are some similarities in Cecily's story: it also shows a woman who stands for herself and has some tough experiences to live through。 The first turning point in the life of Cecily was rather predictable, but otherwise I liked to follow her journey。 She was definitely interesting。I thought I would not like to read Electra's story because of the way she was described in the previous books, but her behaviour changes quite fast。 Actually her story is a bit too good to be true, everything falls into place and everyone is all about love etc。 But well, it was still a very nice read。 I was happy that the story choses to focus on the African continent for a change。 Maybe the last book will be in an Asian culture? 。。。more

FromToSadly, this was my least favorite book in the series。 I was hesitent going into it from the beginning since we met Electra in book 1 。 Cecily's story, even though it was great, it wasn't as greatas the rest of the other stories from the past。 This book was soooo looong and the story dragged for hundreds of pages and by the time I hit 80% of it, I was just ready for it to end。 The one thing that I absolutely loved about this book was the part about Kenya and everything that happened there an FromToSadly, this was my least favorite book in the series。 I was hesitent going into it from the beginning since we met Electra in book 1 。 Cecily's story, even though it was great, it wasn't as greatas the rest of the other stories from the past。 This book was soooo looong and the story dragged for hundreds of pages and by the time I hit 80% of it, I was just ready for it to end。 The one thing that I absolutely loved about this book was the part about Kenya and everything that happened there and also seeing some of the other sisters (it has been so long since I've read Maya and Ally's story)。 Also, that last chapter, I was expecting so much more from it。。。but thankfully, book 7 is already out and I can't wait to read it。 。。。more

A lovely story filled with storylines of current relevance, triumph over adversity and the beautiful backdrop of Africa。 Would love to have heard more of Stella’s visit to her homeland followed by a visit by Electra - linking it to the beautiful Maasai tribal story could be a book in itself。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I wasn't looking forward to Electra's story, because I couldn't really relate to her, based on the way she was portrayed in the stories of her sisters, and in the first part of the book I still wasn't a fan。。。but gradually I found myself warming to her, and by the end I felt just as proud of her as her own family and friends would have! I also found the supporting characters such as Mariam, Tommy, and Lizzie to be very likeable。 While I loved the story of Cecily, and Stella as well, it moved it I wasn't looking forward to Electra's story, because I couldn't really relate to her, based on the way she was portrayed in the stories of her sisters, and in the first part of the book I still wasn't a fan。。。but gradually I found myself warming to her, and by the end I felt just as proud of her as her own family and friends would have! This book was well done but not my style。 I don’t enjoy reading about addiction even when it includes recovery。 I don’t recall the other books in the series feeling so much like historical fiction。 This one felt like mini history lessons but I seem to recall that other ones just had to stories and are woven and didn’t focus on teaching or lessons。

Book 6 of the Seven Sister series – Electra’s story。 While I enjoyed this, the history was more contemporary dealing with life in Africa right before WWII and then US civil rights in the 1950-60’s。 There was an underlying story of addiction and getting help。 Electra’s journey to get clean was tough reading, but she seemed to breeze right through it and easily stay on track。 There was a little interaction with sisters Maia, Ally and an email from Tiggy。 Electra goes to Atlantis for a short visit, Book 6 of the Seven Sister series – Electra’s story。 While I enjoyed this, the history was more contemporary dealing with life in Africa right before WWII and then US civil rights in the 1950-60’s。 There was an underlying story of addiction and getting help。 Electra’s journey to get clean was tough reading, but she seemed to breeze right through it and easily stay on track。 There was a little interaction with sisters Maia, Ally and an email from Tiggy。 Electra goes to Atlantis for a short visit, so Ma and Claudia make an appearance。 Like the other books, there is a close storyline of her grandmother and her history and not too much about her birth mother。 Stella came to Electra without the hunt that other books outlined。 My actual rating is just under 4。 I felt this was more story-like and lacked some of the uniqueness in the historical aspect than the other books。 It may have been that being more contemporary it wasn’t as magical and interesting。 。。。more
